Posted on

Join our friends from the California Women’s Watersport Collective for a surf kayaking clinic on Thursday March 23rd (The day before SCPF starts)!

Instructors: Devon Barker-Hicks & Kelly Henry

Note: This clinic is geared towards intermediate/advanced paddlers with a

consistent roll.

Using surf kayaks, as well as high performance whitewater kayaks, we’ll work to

improve your skill set surfing ocean waves specifically in competition. We use a

combination of discussion, on-water drills and coaching to get maximum benefit

out of the day. We will focus on timing and take-off, carving turns, wave anatomy

and reading the waves, surf etiquette and decision-making during the

We will be announcing the exact location when it gets closer to the date of the

clinic (weather and surf report dependent). We will be at a good break

somewhere between Santa Cruz and Capitola.

SCPF Registration and You

Posted on Updated on

Registration for the 2017 event is just around the corner! SCPF will be opening up advanced registration soon. Each year we strive to keep a competitive field and so we invite the top half of the previous event to a special pre-registration. There are no benefits to it and you’re just able to sign up first. After two weeks of the pre-registration we will open up registration to the rest of the field.

Last year, as did previous years, we saw a good number of people on the wait list. To simplify things we will have an option to sign up for the wait list for your category. New wait lists will be created as categories fill. Once we are a month before the event, if we have been able to add heats or people dropped, we will go down the list and people will be notified.

The 2016 registration broke records on how fast everything filled up, please be sure to follow us here as we will post when things are live.

Below are the categories for the surfing event:

Steamer Lane

Mens SUP

Womens SUP

Open HP

Well, what can I say? The 30th Santa Cruz Paddlefest was a success! I can’t believe the amazing conditions that we had for all three days. Our all star roster of competitors really put on a good show for us. To top it off, everyone was smiling (seriously, everyone was). I am thrilled and proud of the event that we brought to our paddle sports enthusiasts this year and I hope to see each and every one of you for next years SCPF!

All the best,

Mat Hoff

PS: A big shout out to presenting sponsor, Starboard. With their help we were able to put on such a fantastic event.
